If you’re feeling creative, now’s the time to get pen and paper out – or hunch over your PC - and practise your writing skills.

Abergavenny Eisteddfod is offering the chance to have your compositions reviewed by experienced adjudicators in the annual literature competitions for adults.

There are prose and poetry categories for English and Welsh speakers, and a new set of competitions for learners, sponsored by Coleg Gwent.

Beginners can compose a Welsh e-mail between two friends; learners at foundation level can invite a friend to a party; intermediate learners are asked to write a letter of complaint and advanced speakers have the challenge of reviewing a contemporary Welsh novel.

This year’s literature adjudicator for Welsh learners is Antoni Morgan of Coleg Gwent, an experienced tutor whose name will be familiar to many learners and fluent speakers in the area.

For first language Welsh and English speakers, the adjudicator is Manon Rhys, a well-known author who has won the National Eisteddfod’s Crown and Prose Medal.

The closing date for literature entries is May 20. Winners will be announced at the gala concert in the Borough Theatre on June 18, which will showcase some of Wales’ finest singers and instrumentalists. Further information can be found on the website abergavennyeisteddfod.co.uk
