RECOMMENDATIONS on a report into the future of Monmouthshire's Tourist Information Centres (TIC) has been approved by the Economy and Development Select Committee.

As reported in The Chronicle last week, Abergavenny's TIC could be saved if the council approve the recommendations including creating both physical and virtual TICs.

However, there is a possibility Abergavenny TIC will move from its current location at the bus station to the new library once built, in a move to create shared service spaces that are modern, dynamic and multi-purpose.

The budget for TICs in 2011/12 remains at £180k. Although there is a commitment to continue funding the shared service in Abergavenny with Brecon Beacons National Park, which has assumed its own business modelling approach.

Monmouthshire County Council's Chief Officer for Regeneration and Culture, Kellie Beirne told the meeting, "The review has been challenging and provocative, it was a timely debate that was needed."

The report will now go before MCC's Cabinet next month.
