Abergavenny Thurdays U16s - 2

Rockfield Rovers Under 16s - 0

Abergavenny Thursdays travelled to Rockfield Rovers on the weekend looking to break their run of two 1-1 draws on the trot.

The game started well for the Thursdays and ten minutes in a few lucky deflections and bounces in midfield saw the ball find Ryan Groves.

Utilising his pace, Groves run the ball into the Rockfield box, before coolly slotting home the opener.

The return of front man Josh Stephens brought more height and target to the Thursdays attack with Conor Dando and Ryan seeing plenty of ball, from the hold up play of Stephens.

From a Jimmy Davies free kick, Stephens made a precise and well timed header to give the Thursdays a two goal cushion as the Thursdays continued to control the game until the interval.

Rockfield came out all guns blazing in the second half and Thursdays keeper Jake Grove was called on to make a fine save.

Some tight defending from the Thursdays centre half pairing of Callum Smith and Sean Russell reduced the number of further attempts by Rockfield to just two, and they were both dealt with comfortably by Grove, as the Thursdays ran out winners and remain league leaders in the run up to the Christmas break.
