POCKET rocket John Wylie soared to a thundering win in the recent Paramount circuit races in Shropshire after beating a large field of third and fourth category riders in a finish line sprint.

Wylie who rides for the M&D Cycles-Specialized Cycling Team has now added his victory to an impressive array of results, that has seen the club make a great start to the 2009 road cycling season.

With new local Sponsor Dave Preece joining forces with PM Consultants the team is set for a great year.

The opening time trial event on March 1, a 25 mile team time trial, saw the M&D Cycles team field four two man teams and one half of a composite team in the Port Talbot wheelers event, which was won by a pair from Cwmcarn Paragon.

Kevin and Chris Jones (not related) posted the fastest of the M&D Cycles teams times with a great time of 58 minutes 26 seconds followed by Andy Bowd and Alistair Morgan in 1.00.09, Stuart Inch and his Composite partner in 1.01.28, Miles Preece and Shaun Lewis in 1.03.31 and Ross Phillips and new sponsor Dave Preece in 1.11.02.

This event was the first time trial event for both Preece and Lewis.

Seven riders also entered the Abertillery 10 mile time trial on the Raglan By-Pass, which saw the second win of the day for Andy Bowd who won the event with a blistering time of 22 minutes and13 seconds, beating second placed Clinton Evans of Abertillery, by well over a minute.

There then came an influx of M&D riders at third, fourth and fifth. Chris Jones at 23.31, Kevin Jones at 23.35 and Alistair Morgan at 23.40. Mark Puddle came in in 25.53 in his first time trial and Dave Preece was in 27.25.

Jones and Morgan also tackled Pontypool RC's 16 mile hilly time trial. The event was won by Cwmcarns Dave Povall in 37.49 with Jones in a creditable fourth at 39.28 and Morgan fifth at 40.27.

Overall it was a great start to the road season for the M&D Cycles-Specialized team after a great Winter's Cyclo-cross.

Neil Main of PM Consultants said "It's great to see the white and black shirts of the team so predominant in local and National events".

Dave Preece added "The time trials I've done have been a baptism of fire as I've never done them before. I am proud to be associated with such a nice bunch of racers who all have the same goals, to race as hard as they can and be proud of the kit they ride in and for the team they ride for"
