SHORTLY before Christmas, Kate O'Donnell, landlady of the Hen and Chickens, organized a festival of fundraising at the pub for breast cancer research charity In The Pink.

The £800 proceeds were, last Thursday, presented to the In The Pink organizers by Kate and Chicks customer Bernard Watkins who, for the cause, gave his time, lost his chest hair, got cold-sponged and donated a significant amount to the swear box.

Liz Sullivan, founder of In The Pink was kept busy on the 'Chicks in The Pink' day as, not only did she wax Bernard's chest, she also removed all traces of hair from Jim Beynon's back.

Kate said: 'Everybody involved with 'Chicks In The Pink' – staff and customers - were fantastic. They were all prepared to go through so much for the cause – including waxing and soaking - and they raised an amazing amount of money for an amazing charity.'

Liz Sullivan agreed: 'This wonderful event at the Chicks was typical of the outstanding efforts made for In The Pink by the people of Abergavenny – who have always supported us in their thousands.

"We can't thank Kate and the Hen and Chickens enough for their superb fundraising day and look forward to seeing all our Abergavenny friends on May 17 for the 2009 In The Pink Canal Walk.'
