FOLLOWING the Chronicle's lead story last week on the objection against a proposed new housing development, Welsh Water have made a statement.
We reported how residents and organisations had objected against a scheme to build 40 units on the Knoll estate opposite Nevill Hall for fears of sewage and traffic problems.
A spokeswoman for Welsh Water said, "Each planning application that Dwr Cymru Welsh Water receives is judged on its own merits and assessed to ensure that our service levels to our customers are maintained and potential pollution of the environment is avoided.
"Welsh Water initially objected to plans to build new homes on the Knoll site in Abergavenny on the grounds that the development would overload the existing public combined sewerage system. Further investigations have highlighted that surface water from a large existing property was contributing to the public sewerage system.
"The surface water from this property has now been re-directed to soakaways which has reduced the strain on the public sewerage system. We are now satisfied that if the new development goes ahead, the public sewerage system will be able to cope with the waste generated in this area of Abergavenny."
The plans are due to go before Monmouthshire County Council planning committee later this month.
