A fund-raising event in aid of Sands, the charity which supports those affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth, is being held on Sunday December 11 at Get Together coffee shop in Nevill Street, Abergavenny.

Sands provides emotional support and information for parents, grandparents, siblings, children, families and friends, health professionals and others.

The funds raised will go towards organising and providing training workshops for the local healthboard midwives in Cwm Taf and Aneurin Bevan.

The event, which is open to all for an admission fee of £4, will include a children’s Christmas disco, a Santa’s grotto, special guests such as Christmas Minnie and Mickey Mouse, face painting and more.

It’s being hosted by Myscha Dene in memory of her daughter who was stillborn in June 2010.

“As not only a bereaved parent but a final year student midwife myself, I recognise how important training and education is in order to improve long-term outcomes for families affected by stillbirth or neonatal death,” she said. “That’s why I am so very passionate about raising the funds to put this in place.”
