AN Abergavenny military charity is closing after a ‘very quiet’ year and distributing its remaining funds between a number of causes dedicated to the services.

Welsh Warrior - The Richard Hunt Foundation, was set up in memory of local soldier, Private Richard Hunt, the 200th soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Richard, 21, was serving with the 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh when he was killed in 2009 after an explosion in Helmand Province.

Kate Swinhoe, clerk to the trustees, stated, ‘This last year has, thankfully, been very quiet in terms of those coming forward requiring help, we hope that this is due to greater knowledge of where they can turn to in times of need.

‘We are extremely proud of what has been achieved in Richard’s memory and we would like to thank all those who helped us along the way. To all our wonderful volunteers who helped with the festivals and everyone who supported us and donated so generously.

‘We have helped to give many lads and lasses and their families a chance to get back to some form of normality in their lives.’

The Charity will be distributing more than £40,000 in remaining funds. The Trustees added, ‘We appreciate all the help we have been given by the general public and we hope that your generosity will continue to help other charities that are so similar to us.

‘We all owe a huge debt to those who have sacrificed so much, please never forget’.
