THE theme for Raglan Parc's new season captains' opening event was nautical and this could not have been more appropriate as shortly after the opening drives, the heavens opened and there was water, water everywhere.
Several members braved the conditions to watch the ceremony, in which the captains 'rowed' to the first tee, and many were suitably attired in fancy dress.
A few were even brave enough to compete in the battle of the sexes that was the Warren Trophy.
Unfortunately, even though this was curtailed to nine holes due to the conditions, only the captains and one other group persevered all the way to the ninth - the 19th hole having been re-designated the second or third hole etc, depending on how much water the competitors could take.
The trophy was won by the men, but the big winners were those who turned up, especially those in fancy dress, to kick off a new season, which they all hoped was going to bring much better weather than the last.
