ABERGAVENNY Tennis Club's first team secured their promotion into Division One of the South Wales Summer Doubles League with a 6-0 victory over promotion rivals Lisvane on Sunday. Andy Clements and Arthur Hales, John Oliver and Mark Johnson, Robert Wedlake and Steve Edwards won two rounds each, dropping only one set in the process.

The team will be making a long-overdue return to Division One tennis after a two year absence and will aim to consolidate their place next season.

Meanwhile the Ladies 'B' team travelled to neighbours Crickhowell 'A' to play a Gwent Midweek league match.

The team of Sue Taplin and Noni Heritage, Claire Clarke and Caroline Morgan were pipped by three rubbers to one and will now look forward to a Cup semi-final against Monmouth on July 9.
