Monmouthshire county councillors have approved the authority’s corporate plan, which sets out the Conservative-run Council’s plans for the next four years.

The document, A Monmouthshire That Works For Everyone, sets out detailed commitments to continue investing in new schools, supporting older people to remain in their homes, protecting local services, increasing the supply of affordable housing and helping to create a ‘fairer’ society.

The Plan includes commitments in five key areas: giving every child the best possible start in life; promoting thriving and connected communities; caring for our natural and built environment; promoting life long well-being and developing a future-focused council.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Peter Fox explained, “This is an ambitious plan which encapsulates our pledges to make Monmouthshire an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

“This plan has realistic and achievable goals, but they will be challenging to deliver against a backdrop of the appalling financial settlement Monmouthshire receives from the Labour-run Welsh Government.

“We will continue to invest in new secondary schools, building on the progress in Caldicot and Monmouth as well as raising standards and helping every child to reach their full potential.  We will support vulnerable and elderly people enabling them to remain in their homes and communities for longer.  We will work with partners to help create a fair and equal society, whilst addressing child poverty. We will promote our county as the place to do business, increasing opportunities for employment.

“We will continue to maintain good local services and will enhance our leisure and recreation provision as well as bringing forward the provision of quality housing, including affordable housing, to meet the needs of our communities.”
