Police have released two locals in their forties after arresting them for possession of drugs and weapons, last week.

Officers assisted door staff outside an Abergavenny nightspot on Friday, March 8, in searching a 40-year-old male, and woman in her forties.

Police have cautioned the man for possessing a screwdriver, and Class B drugs, whilst releasing the woman, 45, pending forensic examination.

Abergavenny ward manager, PC Adam Hollings said, “Whilst we take knife crime very seriously all-year-round, Operation Sceptre is a good time to showcase the work we do and to develop closer working relationships with others, such as door staff, in order to tackle this crime more effectively.

“We are also working with the towns pubs through the pub-watch scheme and will be providing them with metal detecting wands for searches and also specialist first aid kits to deal with both knife and acid attacks.

“Abergavenny is a very safe town to live in and fortunately knife related crime here is very low. We still however remain vigilant and take as many steps as possible, such as these to make sure the police and the towns pubs are prepared.”

Anyone with information on knife crime, or possession, can contact police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
