Drivers across Monmouthshire are advised to prepare for upcoming temporary road closures starting at the end of August, as utility providers carry out necessary infrastructure maintenance and upgrading works. Monmouthshire County Council has issued three separate Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to facilitate safe work operations across the county.

The first disruption will begin on Monday, August 31, 2026, on Grosmont Road in Grosmont. Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water will carry out necessary utility works on a 155-meter stretch located approximately 1.6 kilometers from the junction with Hand Road. The closure will operate between 9am and 4pm, with all works expected to conclude within the day. A signed diversion route using Grosmont Road and the A465 will be in place.

Also commencing on Monday, August 31, 2026, telecom pole installation works will affect two distinct routes in the Whitecastle Ward. Work will take place between 10am and 15pm and is slated for completion on the same day. The affected sections are:

  • C19.1 Hill House to Llymon Brook: Closed approximately 320 meters east from its B4521 junction for roughly 70 meters. Drivers will be diverted via the B4521 and Brynderi Road.
  • Llanvihangel Church Road: Closed approximately 320 meters from Pant Lane for about 80 meters in a south-easterly direction. The diversion route follows Pant Lane, the B4233, Old Hendre Road, Mill Road, and Upper Red House Abbey Bridge.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, BT Fibre works will necessitate the temporary closure of Grosmont Road in Llangua. The closure covers a 0.65-kilometer section starting from the road’s junction with the A465. Work is scheduled to run between 9:30 amand 3:30pm. A signed diversion route will direct motorists along Grosmont Road and the A465.

Carl Touhig, Head of Neighbourhood Services for Monmouthshire County Council, confirmed that reasonable access will be maintained for all properties fronting the closed stretches during the active work hours. The public is reminded that under Section 16(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, failing to comply with these restrictions constitutes a legal offence.
