Motorists across rural Monmouthshire are being advised to plan ahead, with a series of temporary road closures scheduled over the coming weeks to allow essential infrastructure works to be carried out safely. The measures affect roads in Pencroesoped, Llangua, Grosmont and the Whitecastle area.

The first closure comes into force on August 24 on Old Abergavenny Road at Pencroesoped, where utility contractors will be undertaking poling works. A section of road around 230 metres long, approximately 0.7km from its junction with Saron Road, will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Drivers will be diverted via Old Abergavenny Road, Saron Road and the A4042.

Attention then turns to the Grosmont area, where two separate schemes are planned. From September 1, a stretch of Grosmont Road at Llangua will be closed for BT fibre installation works. The closure will extend from the road's junction with the A465 for around 0.65km and is expected to operate between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Diversions will follow the A465.

Meanwhile, a separate closure on Grosmont Road in Grosmont is due to begin on August 31 to allow Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to carry out works. The affected section lies around 1.6km from the junction with Hand Road and covers approximately 155 metres. The order allows the closure to remain in place until the end of October, although working hours are expected to be between 9am and 4pm. Traffic will again be diverted via the A465.

Further disruption is expected in Whitecastle Ward on August 31, where two roads will close for a programme of poling works. The first affects the C19.1 Hill House to Llymon Brook road, with a 70-metre section closed east of the B4521 junction. The second closure affects an 80-metre stretch of Llanvihangel Church Road near Pant Lane. Local diversion routes will be signed, directing traffic along surrounding county roads.

Monmouthshire County Council says access for residents and properties fronting the affected roads will be maintained wherever reasonably possible during the works. The authority has urged road users to allow extra time for journeys and follow signed diversion routes while the improvements are carried out.
