A fresh series of road closures and diversions are set to cause delays for motorists and residents across Monmouthshire this August and September as Monmouthshire County Council carries out essential utility and civil infrastructure works. Head of Neighbourhood Services Carl Touhig has issued several Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to ensure the operations are executed safely.

Govilon and Bont Work Commences

The disruptions begin on August 17 in Govilon, where poling and cabling work requires daytime closures on both Twyn Allwys Road and Link Road. Between 9:30am and 3:30pm, Twyn Allwys Road will close for approximately 0.85km starting 260 metres from the B4246 Merthyr Road junction. Simultaneously, Link Road will be closed from its junction with Twyn Allwys Road to Tyla Road. A signed diversion route via Tyla Road, Station Road, and the B4246 Merthyr Road will be in place.

Also starting August 17, civil engineering works will close Great House Road in Bont from Danygraig Road to Cefn Llaithan Road. This closure is expected to remain until September 4, with drivers detoured via Cefn Llaithan Road, New Line Road, and New Inn Road.

Clydach and Pencroesoped scheduled next

Mid-month, attention turns to Clydach for BT cabling and duct installation. Rhiwr Road, between Station Road and Mount Pleasant, will be closed daily from 09:30 to 15:30 between August 19 and August 21. Due to the area's geography, two distinct signed diversions will route traffic through key arteries including the A465 Heads of the Valley Road, A467, B4248 Blaenavon Road, and local R206 routes.

The final announced disruption occurs on August 24 in Pencroesoped. A 230-metre stretch of Old Abergavenny Road, situated roughly 0.70km from the Saron Road junction, will close between 9:30am and 3:30pm for poling works. Drivers will be diverted via Old Abergavenny Road, Saron Road, and the A4042.

Council officials confirmed that reasonable access will be maintained for properties directly fronting the affected road sections throughout all project phases.
