Motorists travelling through mid-Wales face months of disruption under plans to introduce temporary speed restrictions along the A479 between Glanusk Park and Llyswen thanks to an order imposing temporary speed limits of 40mph, 30mph and, in some circumstances, 10mph on the trunk road while essential works are carried out on or near the route. The restrictions would apply along the A479 from its junction with the A40 at Glanusk Park to its junction with the A470 at Llyswen.

Under the proposals, the 10mph limit would operate during convoy working, when overtaking would also be prohibited.

The order is expected to come into force on 28 August 2026, with the measures operating intermittently from 8am that day. Although the restrictions will only be implemented when required, the legal order could remain in place for up to 18 months.

Advance notices detailing individual phases of work will be displayed before works begin. Authorities say the measures are necessary to ensure the safety of workers and road users during the programme.
