Plans to enlarge the Esso service station on Abergavenny’s Hereford Road were approved by county councillors this week despite their town counterparts’ objections.

The application, heard by Monmouthshire County Council’s planning committee on Tuesday, will extend the current building, adding new parking spaces for staff and customers on vacant land next to the site.

A further 208 square metres of new store space to the current site will now be built.

Abergavenny Town Council recommended that the plans should be refused, with Councillor Martyn Groucutt citing potential traffic problems in that area.
