AN Abergavenny police officer whose charity work on behalf of the elderly fills most of his free time is set to receive a prestigious award this week.

PC Jon Williams will receive the Annual Award for Exceptional citizenship from High Sheriff, Kevin Thomas JP at a ceremony in the Coffee Pot Cafe, Nevill Street on Wednesday, March 21st.

The award is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the safety of the older adult community and will take place at

10.00am.

As part of the same event, the Senior Citizen Liaison Team Charity, of which Jon Williams is a trustee, will give a rare Senior Star Awards to Bryan Harris and Laura Masson, proprietors of the Coffee Pot Café, who have been nominated for the accolade by their customers.

The award recognises The Coffee Pot’s mindfulness to the needs of elderly customers, particularly those with additional needs, such as mobility or disability issues, which, say the Liaison Team, has had a positive impact upon the Abergavenny community.

The Charity will also be hosting its inaugural Senior Safety Surgery at the Coffee Pot Café between 10am – 12am. The SCLT has been existence since 2009 and provides protective services to help the elderly avoid becoming victims of financial harm and scamming.

Representatives of Gwent Police and other SCLT volunteers from Gwent and Powys will also in attendance.
