Local Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has received a reply to his latest letter sent to the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM, regarding progress with plans to de-trunk the A40 passing through Abergavenny.
The Cabinet Secretary, in his reply of 21st November, has stated “We have identified the A40 section through Abergavenny as a potential de-trunking scheme which is set out within our National Transport Finance Plan”.
However, the letter explains that de-trunking the route will “require the provision of a suitable alternative route for the trunk road and work to establish an alternative route is yet to begin.”
Speaking today Mr Ramsay said, “I’m very aware that local residents and businesses in Abergavenny will be frustrated that no date has been set to make progress with the de-trunking scheme.
“I will continue to keep pressure on the Welsh Government to give this matter priority given the views of local people on the issue and the constant problems Abergavenny faces with the busy A40 passing through the town centre.”
