Among local people featured in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours is 68-year-old Patricia Margery Davies from Llangynidr who has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community.
For more than 30 years she has been involved in raising money for CLIC Sargent Cancer Care through her role as Chief Choir Organiser of an annual concert held in St Davids Hall, Cardiff, raising upwards of £8,000 a year.
In addition, she helps raise large sums of money for charity through her membership of CLIC Sargent, Abergavenny Bach Society, and in the past with the Gwent Singers.
She is secretary and committee member for Llangynidr Village Hall, and is a stalwart supporter in raising funds for the hall which is extremely popular in the area and widely used for a variety of events.
She is secretary of Llangynidr Sardis United Reform Chapel where she plays the organ and ensures that the chapel is well maintained. She is also a member of the chapel’s Knitters and Natters group who meet there every week to make a variety of things to support the work of Health Help International.
