THE Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship fundraiser - the Welsh Memory Walk - visited the Glanusk estate in the Brecon Beacons on Sunday (October 9).

It was the final memory walk of the year involving hundreds of Alzheimer’s Society supporters. The aim is to raise money for a world without dementia

Neil Hamilton, AM for Mid and West Wales and his wife, media personality Christine Hamilton, cut the ribbon to start.

Afterwards Neil said, “Christine and I have been supporters of the Alzheimer’s Society for many years and are delighted to be here today to show tangible support for the wonderful work which the Society does to raise funds and awareness to help people affected by dementia in Wales.

“It was a pleasure to cut the ribbon and cheer on all those making their personal contribution towards raising money to help people living with dementia in Mid and West Wales and to help fund the search for a cure.”

Kerry Phelps, Alzheimer’s Society Operations Manager for South Powys said, “Memory Walk is a wonderful occasion and demonstration of solidarity.

“It was heart-warming to see so many people stepping out together in the beautiful surroundings of the Brecon Beacons.

“There was a real buzz at the event. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped to make this a really memorable occasion .”

There are 2,376 people living with dementia in Powys alone. Alzheimer’s Society provides a wide range of services for sufferers and their families including befriending groups and dementia support.

Every pound raised at Glanusk will help fund local services and research.
