A NOISE impact survey carried out at the planned site for a skate park in Abergavenny has revealed the council may have to review their plans.

The skate board park is planned for construction at Pen y Pound, however, concerns from residents led to a noise impact survey being carried out before any further development was made.

Councillor Liz Hacket-Pain, Cabinet member for Lifelong Learning and Leisure, says she is still fully committed to the project and the youth of Abergavenny, she said, "I would like to say as Cabinet member for the skateboard park, Obviously have a responsibility to the youth I am totally committed to the young people of Abergavenny and the skateboard park, it was their idea and I am 100 per cent committed in seeing this project through to the end.

"The process from start to finish is democratic and at present it is with the planning department at Monmouthshire County Council who have commissioned a noise impact survey, this was thought prudent by the public.

"The resulting report has recommendations that need to be taken into account, maybe a review."

At a Bryn y Cwm meeting recently it was agreed that the report on the the noise impact survey be included into a special meeting of the committee in September after Councillor Tony Carrington asked for the report to be sent to members as the committee was not planned to meet again until October.

He said, "We have had many debates on this issue and have asked the planning committee to carry out this impact assessment.

"Bearing in mind we are not meeting until October I am concerned that members will not have site of this document and not be able to comment on it. We should write as a committee asking for it to be sent to members."

Councillor Chris Woodhouse added that every councillor has the right to see and comment on the document but said, " I do think we are getting councillors commenting on areas that are miles from their own area."

Councillor Carrington retaliated saying, "Whether it be in Gilwern or Abergavenny I don't just stop at Gilwern, I am a member of Monmouthshire County Council. I don't shut my mouth at Gilwern, If I want to comment on it than I will."

Councillor Rob Griffiths said that he has had a number of people in the Pen y Pound area contact him about the skate park looking for any more information he added, "If they don't contact me than I contact them. I will not be railroaded into something, we must speak up when it comes to planning.

"This has become a contentious issue,we need to send a letter saying 'please make a decision so residents know what to fight for again' and to ensure residents have a say on this, keeping them abreast of this issue."
