Crickhowell-based Welsh Farmhouse Apple Juice has received a substantial order to supply its award-winning organic juice to the NATO summit reports ANNABEL HUGHES. It's part of a strategy to supply the Summit with quality Welsh products which highlight what the Principality has to offer. Owner John Morris said, "We have chosen a Welsh Apple called St Cecilia which actually originated around 1900 in Newport. It was raised by John Basham and Sons of Bassaleg from a Cox's Orange Pippin seedling. It has an excellent aromatic flavour and keeps well through to Christmas and as far ahead as March. "We have also supplied the Celtic Manor with a substantial amount of smaller 25cl bottles of organic applejuice and we expect this to be available to the delegates during their meetings. "We are not informed who exactly will be drinking it but if Barack Obama rings we could supply Airforce One for his return journey!" It's been an exciting year for the business, including a Royal visit in July and they're currently 'flat out' fulfilling orders. John's company also provided juice for the First Minister's reception in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London last week. But it was not the only local business given the opportunity to showcase its products there. Robb and Nicola Merchant of White Castle Vineyard, Llanvetherine were delighted to receive a call from the FCO to serve their quality wines at the reception. It was a debut for their 2013 Vintage gwin gwyn (white wine) and both were thrilled to have a personal invite where they were asked to share their viticulture passion for grape growing with dignitaries from all countries.
