KEEN eyed viewers may spot a familiar Abergavenny face during this week's live semi finals of Britain's Got Talent, when local man Peter Jay takes the helm of the London Gay Big Band as its musical director. Peter, who is originally from Llanellen where his family still lives, is a pivotal part of the 20 piece jazz orchestra based in London, made up predominantly, but not exclusively, of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender musicians and vocalists. After discovering his trombone talents while at King Henry VIII Comprehensive School, Peter made his way through Birmingham University to the big smoke in order to follow his musical dreams. The band has already established itself in the LGBT world and has been touring Europe and is now set to take on the UK on one of the biggest stages this week. Peter's mum, Hilary, said she is incredibly proud of her son and the band and what they have achieved. "What I'm most proud of is him being himself. He has taken on a huge role within the big band being one of the youngest members, and I could not be more thrilled,"?she said. She is also excited to be able to head down and see the show live, and support her son right from the crowd. The semi-finals take place all this week, so get your phones, ipads or laptops ready to vote.
