Brecon and Radnor AM Kirsty Williams recently met local Welsh Liberal Democrat councillor John Morris at Glangrwyney to discuss the on-going road works on the A40.

The Minister for Economy, Science and Transport Edwina Hart, in a written response to Ms Williams in July, said she was unable to be specific about the timescale involved with the roadworks.

Ms Williams replied, "I understand road maintenance is necessary and desirable but this situation is totally unacceptable.

"The lights have been in place for almost two months with little sign of any work taking place let alone sign of completion.

"The A40 is crucial for people in my constituency. The lights are causing long delays for people who need access to Abergavenny for work and medical needs at Nevill Hall Hospital.

"It seems extraordinary that this work was started with little or no plan in place."

Councillor Morris agreed with her comments.

"It is quite unacceptable that this situation has gone on for so long," he said. "This is a very busy trunk road and the delay in progressing this creates a danger to local residents and other road users.

"The Minister and Welsh Government's trunk road agency need to get things sorted as a matter of urgency.

"Kirsty and I will keep up the pressure on the Assembly minister until we have a resolution to this matter."
