REGIONAL Senedd Member Laura Anne Jones Jones, has welcomed the International Olympic Committee’s latest move to not allow biological males to compete in female sport.

Ms Jones said, “This news is a win for fairness and common sense! I’ve spent this entire Senedd term raising this issue, because women-only sport exists for a reason. It is about fairness, safety and giving women and girls a genuine chance to compete and succeed.

“For too long, politicians have been too scared to speak out this issue, but the reality is simple. If you ignore biology, you undermine fairness. That is not equality, it is the opposite of it.

“And let’s be honest, some of the very Tories who labelled people like me ‘anti trans’ for saying this, are now scrambling to agree because it suits them politically. Women’s rights should never be a matter of convenience.

“But this victory shouldn’t just benefit the top elite athletes, all women and girls, at all levels of sport, should feel safe, protected and have a fair chance to compete.

“All men and boys need to be taken out of all women and girls sports across the board. Men do have a biological advantage, and now that has been recognised. Everyone should have the chance to play sport, and they can, in the right categories.

“But this is a huge step forward and I look forward to other sporting bodies following suit.”
