The inquests into the deaths of two men killed in a collision in Abergavenny last week opened on Tuesday

The two local men, Jordan Thomas and Lee Fox, were killed on Friday Jan 8 following a crash involving a Toyota Celica and Citroen C2 on the B4598 near Hardwick at around 11pm.

Gwent coroner David Bowen opened the inquests into the deaths of the pair, Jordan Thomas, 19, and Lee Fox, 35. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Post-mortems carried out by pathologist Dr Majid Rashid at Royal Gwent Hospital found Mr Thomas, a farm labourer, died from multiple lacerations and fractures sustained in the crash.

Mr Fox, an engineer and family man, also died from multiple lacerations.

Two men, aged 20 and 24, from the Abergavenny area, were bailed on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Mr Bowen adjourned the inquests for three months. The bodies of both men were released to their families for funeral arrangements.

Following the crash, friends of the two victims paid tribute by holding a 60-car slow drive through Abergavenny and out toward the crash site.

Floral tributes and social media messages followed the tragic news.

Mr Thomas, known as ‘Bell’, was described as a “friendly, hardworking and loving lad” by his parents Gary and Michaela Thomas.

Kim Russell, partner of Mr Fox, called him a “loving boyfriend, father, stepfather and friend to many.”

Police have asked anyone with information on the collision to call 101 and quote Incident Number 504 08/01/16.
