Around 200 soldiers from 1 Rifles have taken part in the Freedom Parade in Chepstow, ahead of similar event in Abergavenny this weekend. The soldiers, based at Beachley Barracks in Chepstow have seen continuous commitments recently in Iraq, Kazakhstan and Uganda.
The soldiers formed up at the Chepstow War Memorial and the salute was taken by the Duke of Kent who is Colonel of 1 Rifles. Also in attendance was Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE Lord Lieutenant for Gwent, the High Sheriff Mr Kevin Thomas, County Councillor Maureen Powell, Chairman Monmouthshire County Council and dignitaries from Chepstow Town Council.
Cllr Maureen Powell commented: “This has been a very special day in Chepstow we are so proud of the troops from Beachley Barracks. It really has been wonderful to see everyone marching through this beautiful Monmouthshire town. It was so good to see the large crowd in support with children waving flags.”
