A hotel near Abergavenny was evacuated last night after emergency services attending an accident discovered that a gas main had been ruptured
Fire crews from Abergavenny and Ebbw Vale attending the scene of the accident on the A40 at Llanwenarth between Abergavenny and Crickhowell found that the overturned car involved in the incident had ruptured a gas main.
Firefighters put a safety cordon in place, and evacuated 30 people from the Llanwenarth Arms Hotel and a nearby garage, as well as six people from neighbouring homes.
A Fire Service spokeswoman said: "Gas engineers isolated the supply and crews checked nearby properties with gas detection equipment.”
The A40 at between Abergavenny and Crickhowell was closed from around 1pm when the accident occurred leading to long queues during the afternoon.
