UPDATE 10.10 Monk Street is now reopened to trafficUPDATE: St Mary’s Priory Church has issued a statement saying that despite police activity on Monk Street it has been told it is safe to proceed with various events planned for today including a Mass at 9.30 and a wedding later this afternoon. Gwent Police have refused to comment on an ongoing incident near St Mary’s Church in Abergavenny.

Reports suggested there is a heavy police presence in the area and Monk Street has been closed in both directions and is said to be likely to remain shut until midday.

A police spokesman said the incident was not something they were prepared to comment or issue a statement on.
