Historic St Edmunds Church in Crickhowell, is at risk of deterioration through lack of sufficient regular funds to support maintenance and is also in need of modernisation.
A grant of £60,200 had been awarded to repair the roof, but there’s an urgent need for on-going funding to ensure the church remains at the heart of community life, to preserve and enhance the ancient building for future generations, to upgrade the church’s current facilities for the 21st century, to provide a welcoming resource for locals and visitors and to maintain a sacred place/space of peace, worship and celebration.
A survey of the local community was conducted recently, using a leaflet drop around the parish to find out how many people might be prepared to join a Friends of St Edmund’s scheme.
The results were so encouraging that the Friends scheme will be launched on Saturday April 23, with an event in St Edmund’s Church from 10am until 2pm, which will include a display about the church’s history and information about current activities.
There will be refreshments and supervised activities for children, and an opportunity to ask questions and to commit to joining the new scheme.
Everyone is warmly invited to turn up and find out what it’s all about.
