NEXT week the Torfaen Trading Standards team will be carrying out free checks on electric blankets for the over 60s residents of Torfaen.
The checks take place on Thursday, November 13 at Cwmbran Library between 9.30am and 4pm.
The aim of the checking is to provide a wealth of professional advice and expertise to the older residents of the borough as well as making members of the public aware of the dangers of old or damaged electric blankets and the need to have them regularly checked by an expert. There will be representatives from a number of agencies including The Pensions Service and Care and Repair who will be on hand to give expert help and advice.
A qualified engineer will be at the Library to examine and report on the blankets submitted for testing. As demand in the past has been high then an appointments only system will be used. Any Torfaen resident wishing to book an appointment should contact the Trading Standard service on 01633 647624.
There will also be free replacement blankets, plus advice leaflets which will be available for visitors to the event. A limited collection service is available for Torfaen residents who may find it difficult to get to the venue.
