LLANDGEFEDD Sailing Club held it's annual dinner and prize giving at Usk's Olway Inn last Saturday.
Following the traditional curry, a number of trophies were presented.
Mark Williams from Parc-Seymour sailing his sporty RS100 boat retained the club championship, just ahead of club Commodore Jeremy Symons, with Nigel Tinkler in third place.
The youth honours went to Ben Brannigan from Newport with his twin sister Abigail a very close second.
This year saw the introduction of a new trophy for the highest placed Grand Master (over 60 years of age), which was won by Gareth Edwards from Usk.
The Conventional (non spinnaker) championship was won by Neil Sharratt with Ben Brannigan second, who both sail a Laser as will be used at the 2012 Olympics.
The Asymmetric (with spinnaker sail) championship went down to the final race of the nine month season, with Mark Williams just edging out Jeremy Symons.
Not all the trophies went to the elite sailors, there was trophies presented for most improved adult (Simon Collinson), most improved junior (Owen Harris from Little Mill) best newcomer (Geoff Bennett from Little Mill), sportsmanship (Chris Smith) and services to the club (Tony Tucker who calculates the results and maintains the club web-site amongst many other duties).
Best away result was not difficult to decide this year as Dave Timson had returned from Germany as World Champion in the International [sailing] canoe class; so if you fancy challenging a reigning world champion at his own sport then why not join Llandegfedd sailing club next year!
There was also recognition for some of our junior sailors who are in the both the Welsh and GB youth squads, particularly Hannah Tilley from Llandenny who has already represented Great Britain at international events.
As always the final trophy to be presented was the one nobody wants to win; the capsize trophy, as the winner was to be announced there were a few worried faces around the room, but for both quality and quantity of capsizes it had to be Simon Collinson.
Unfortunately the boats have been packed away for the winter, but members eagerly await the start of the 2012 season on March 1.
