Fed-up residents of an Abergavenny village blighted by noise pollution have renewed calls to resurface the A40 and tackle the problem.
Locals living in The Bryn and surrounding areas want the busy trunk roads between Abergavenny and Raglan to be finally resurfaced following their eight-year campaign.
The residents, supported by Monmouth MP David Davies and Nick Ramsay AM, teamed up with Llanover Community Council to push for whisper asphalt to replace the concrete and solve the issue.
The Welsh Government had previously mooted a resurfacing if enough spare cash could be found in the budget, but has recently said it intends to install noise fencing on the highway boundary instead.

“The erection of noise fencing or some form of sound barrier is totally wrong for the location and won’t protect all properties.
“Modern tarmac is clearly the long-term answer, although I appreciate this would require reconstruction of the entire carriageway and road drainage.
“The A40 is at the end of the life specified when it was built in 1981. I will be pressing Transport Minister Edwina Hart for a timescale of its replacement,” he said.
