PLANS have been submitted to Monmouthshire County Council by a farmer who wants to put a wind turbine on his land to generate electricity in a bid to reduce his carbon footprint.

Jonathan Binns has asked Brecon Beacons National Park's planning authority if he can install the small scale turbine on the top of one of the small hills on his land at Great Llwygy Farm in Llanvihangel Crucorney, near Abergavenny.

Mr Binns wants to generate electricity to be used on the farm, in the farm house, buildings and holiday cottage.

The turbine mast would rest on a 15m tower above the farm on Tre-Fedw Road and will not be higher than the existing trees on the skyline.

It would generate over 100 percent of the landowners electricity requirements throughout the year.

The mast would be demountable and can be removed and replaced by more efficient turbines in the future.

A report by council officers says that the turbine would be quiet because the blades rotate at a relatively low speed.

An ecologist who visited the site did not raise any objections to the proposal and the application is currently being considered by the authority.
