LOCAL cartoonist Mumph’s cover for the Visit Abergavenny brochure is not the only place you’ll be able to see the National Eisteddfod’s Pink Pavilion in 2016.
Another local artist, Jez Thomas, has also produced a work of art which ‘accidentally’ features the Pink Pavilion in the Gateway to Wales.
It was announced last November that when the Eisteddfod rolls into Abergavenny, it would mark the end of an era and use a brand new white Pavilion in place of the iconic Pink big top it’s been using for the last ten years.
As reported in the Chronicle last week, the decision to sink the pink and wave the white pavilion at the Abergavenny Eisteddfod was made after Mumph had already drawn and sent the artwork for Visit Abergavenny to the printers.
Consequently the publication features the Pink Pavilion in Castle Meadows instead of the new white one.
As if to prove lightning does indeed strike twice it would appear Mumph was not the only artist who inadvertently assumed the Pink Pavilion would be coming to the Castle Meadows.
Another local artist, Jez Thomas, agreed to modify one of his renowned depictions of the town for the National Eisteddfod 2016 Appeal Committee to use as promotional material.
The image, featuring the Pink Pavilion of yesteryear has now been used to produce fridge magnets which are for sale at fund-raising events.
So our advice to you would be to get them while they’re hot!
