Abergavenny Action 50+ (AA50+) aims to become a recognised Dementia Friendly Organisation following a presentation by Phil Diamond, designed to raise awareness of the illness, at the group’s October meeting.
Councillors Roger Harris, Martin Hickman, Geoff Burrows and Margaret Harris all attended the talk and committed themselves to ensuring that Abergavenny becomes a Dementia Friendly Town, with the possibility that this could lead to Monmouthshire County Council becoming a Dementia Friendly County for Wales.
Phil told the group that he would return in a few months to see the progress that had been made.
The forum meets again next Wednesday (November 11), when Deryn Fox will talk about the Abergavenny Food Bank and officers for the Commissioner for Older People will be undertaking a consultation with members about various issues affecting older people.
The meeting will be held at the Trinity Church Hall, Baker Street. The doors will be open from 9.30am for those who want to arrive early for a tea or coffee and a chat with others before the meeting starts at 10am. Admission is £1 at the door. New members are always welcome.
