FORMER Gwent magistrate Lady Elisabeth Crawshay has died at her home in Govilon on October 6 at the age of 88.
Lady Crawshay made many contributions to public life in Wales. In Abergavenny she was a magistrate for 24 years and chair of the juvenile bench for 15.
She also played a significant role in the commissioning of Nevill Hall hospital in the 1960s.
She served on the Mental Health Commission for England and Wales, and chaired the Local Boundary Commission for Wales.
She was Deputy Chief Commissioner for St John’s Ambulance in Wales.
She was made CBE in 1986. Her husband Sir William Crawshay died in 1997 after 47 years of marriage
The funeral of Lady Elisabeth Crawshay will be held at Our Lady and St. Michael’s, Abergavenny, on Tuesday, October 20, 2.30pm.
