ABERGAVENNY Tennis Club are in the frame for a double whammy at this weekend's Tennis Wales Awards, after both the club and head coach Robert Wedlake were shortlisted for Club and Coach of the year.

The club has been a hive of activity in recent months, with courts being improved and coaching and playing opportunities expanded.

Last weekend, Wedlake even had a film crew following him around as part of the build-up to the awards which will be held this Saturday at Event Cymru in Llandudno, attended by Roger Draper, CEO of the LTA.

Abergavenny Tennis Club Chairman Mike Buck explained, "Achieving Clubmark status this year was a great milestone in the club's progress, and we are very keen to get more and more people playing tennis.

"Rob Wedlake does a first-class job for us running a programme for all ages and abilities. We were thrilled to have some recognition of our efforts in receiving the good news that we have been nominated and shortlisted as one of three finalists in two categories at the upcoming Tennis Wales Awards."

This is the third consecutive year that the club have been involved with the event, with Mike Buck winning Volunteer of the Year for 2007 and Sean Jones winning Assistant Coach/Leader of the Year for 2008.
