CURRENT serving members of the armed forces, veterans and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Gwent recently visited Monmouthshire County Council headquarters to celebrate the work that the armed forces does in protecting our country.

MCC chairman, Councillor Jane Foulser welcomed visitors to the event which saw the raising of a special commemorative flag for Armed Forces Day 2009.

Representatives from the 1st Battalion - The Rifles, based in Chepstow and from the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia), based in Monmouth, attended, representing the armed forces with Monmouthshire links along with representatives of the Royal British Legion (Gwent Branch) on behalf of the districts of Abergavenny, Chepstow, Monmouth and Caldicot.

County Councillor Jane Foulser said, "This was a wonderful event and a reminder of all the hard work that the armed forces do.  It was wonderful to chat to members of the armed forces both currently serving and veterans."
