A newly-formed charity group will be holding their first event this Sunday in Usk.
Little LifeSavers Gwent is made up of local healthcare professionals (doctors and nurses) who are keen to teach youngsters aged 9-16 years of age basic life saving skills (hands only CPR, the management of choking, the recovery position and how to call for help in an emergency) within schools, clubs and groups.
They have been able to fund their equipment (manikins, volunteer t-shirts, certificates, etc) through kind grants from local sponsors including Abergavenny Town Council, Monmouthshire Housing Association and Deymel Charitable Trust.
GP Registrar and Little LifeSavers Gwent Volunteer Katie Walbeoff-Price explained, “We are holding our first ’event’ on Sunday, April 15, 2-4pm at Sprokwobbles cafe in Usk, during which we plan to run a short session teaching the above skills (for a small donation as guests see fit, in the hope of funding the remainder of our required equipment) and basically just letting people know that we’re here and the service we hope to provide.
“Once fully equipped all of our sessions will be free, our motivation quite literally being to create a ’generation of little life savers’!”
