VISITORS to Abergavenny can now park their cars safe in the knowledge they will not get an unnecessary fine since notorious car park management company Parking Eye is now longer operating in the town.

Since April 2010, The Chronicle has written countless articles and has a mountain of paperwork on people who had been fined unnecessarily by Parking Eye after leaving their cars in the Cibi Walk car park.

Many people who were given parking charge notices for not putting in their correct or full car registration number were able to challenge the £80 charge (£50 if paid within four days) as they had kept the pay and display ticket - proof they had paid. Others who were not so lucky ended up paying the charge.

So many people have complained about the company that it featured on the BBC's consumer programmes X-Ray and Watchdog.

However, motorists can now breath a sign of relief since as a Parking Eye spokesperson confirmed, "The contract at the Cibi Walk car park came to its natural end at the beginning of June 2011."
