Mayor of Abergavenny Councillor Tudor Thomas visited Gateway Church recently to receive his Community Hero Award from Chris Vaz, Pastor of Gateway Church.

Mayor Tudor Thomas was given the award by the Church for the support he has given to the church over a number of years in their efforts to support people in the community who are in need, as well as his work as a local councillor for Priory Ward in Abergavenny, particularly this year as Mayor and during the Covid pandemic.

Housing is a particular interest of Councillor Thomas and the plight of the homeless people in Abergavenny.

He is the first mayor to receive this award from Gateway Church.

Speaking after receiving the award Cllr. Thomas said he was both humbled and honoured to receive this award from the Church.

He paid tribute to Pastor Chris Vaz and all members of his church for their huge efforts in supporting the community in Abergavenny generally but in particular over the period of the pandemic.

He also paid tribute to so many individuals and businesses who have helped with contributions and also food preparations.

he church prepared thousands of meals over the pandemic and in particular in the week before Christmas which is a huge achievement.
