TOWNS, villages and communities in and around Monmouthshire will be remembering the fallen this weekend.

In Abergavenny, on Armistice Day, the Town’s remembrance parade will assemble at 10.30am in Nevill Street and services will take place at the Memorial in the Market Hall and the Monmouthshire Regimental Memorial.

At 12.15pm the Town Council are hosting an event in the Priory Centre during which local school children will read a selection of War Poems and the Priory Choir will sing.

Bell ringers at St Mary’s Priory will be joining a national peel of church bells at 7.10pm on Sunday, November 11th. Church bells across the UK remained restricted throughout the course of the war and only rang freely once Armistice was declared on November 11th,1918.

At the Clarence Hall, Crickhowell, there will be a First World War exhibition on November 10th at 9.00am. Admission is free

and the event is organised by Crickhowell District Archive Centre.

The Llangynidr Festival of Remembrance will take place on November 11th at 5.00pm in the Village Hall and will include the

lighting of the commemoration beacon.

The Churches of Govilon, Llanfoist and Llanellen are joining together for a joint service, beginning at 10.00am on November 11th in Christchurch, Govilon, and including at act of Remembrance at the Memorial Gates on Merthyr Road at 11.00am.

Blaenavon’s Remembrance Parade will leave the Top Car Park at

10.40am and march via Broad Street and Ivor Street to the Cenotaph. At11.00am there will be a wreath laying and service at the Cenotaph followed by a service in St Peter’s Church.

Brynmawr’s parade will leave Brynmawr Royal British Legion at around 10.25am and travel via King Street and Somerset Street to the War Memorial at the Market Hall for an 11.00am ceremony.

Usk Memorial Hall will be staging amusical tribute to past and present service men and women, with guest speakers on Saturday November 10th at 7.30pm.

A Remembrance Service will be held at Usk Castle on Sunday, November 11th at 10.30am. Usk Royal British Legion’s service will be held at St Mary’s Priory Church, Usk at 3.00pm. This will be preceded by a parade from the British Royal Legion along Bridge Street.

Monmouthshire’s chairman, Councillor Peter Clarke, will lay a wreath on behalf of elected members and officers of the council in County Hall at 11.00am on Friday, November 9th. Later that day, he will attend the Llanelly Hill Action Group Armistice Service.

On Sunday November 18th, 2,500 ceramic poppies created by Monmouthshire District Scouts will feature at Raglan Castle.In the afternoon the county’s scouts will attend a memorial service at the castle in recognition of the sacrifice made by Monmouthshire in conflict.
