A ball held at the Angel Hotel, Abergavenny in memory of former mayor Jane Foulser was a resounding success and more than £2,500 is expected to be raised for Alzheimer’s Research.
The final figure is not yet known, said Jane’s daughter Jane Foulser McFarlane who organised the event with her cousin Sheila Hale.
“I am so pleased the evening went so well, there was a lovely atmosphere and everyone enjoyed themselves,” she said.
“The auctioneer Lyndon Trumper made the auction such a fun event and that raised a lot of money. The Angel Hotel owners were so generous providing the canapés and champagne and local businesses were superb in giving auction and raffle prizes.”
The music was provided by the Johnny Ned band and table decorations were by Hilary Cooke the florist from Cross Street. The following day Jane placed the one adorning her table on her mother’s grave.
Among the items donated for the auction were a hot air balloon ride donated by Rob Llewellyn and Richard Smith, a voucher from the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club, a velvet scarf from Charles and Patricia Lester, premier tickets for Chepstow Racecourse, tea for two at Alison Tod’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party plus the chance to wear one of her creations, a voucher for teeth whitening from Pontcanna Dental Care, a limited edition photo of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, donated by Sharon and Mark Gulley, a football signed by Gareth Bale and others from the Wales v Iceland match in March 2015, an autographed shirt from Glamorgan Cricket Club donated by Abergavenny Cricket Club. four tickets for a one-day match at Glamorgan CC in May, a champagne and strawberry trip on the canal given by Sylvia and John Sharland and a landscape painting by Jane’s brother David Edwards.
The ball went ahead despite the death of Jane’s widower Bill a week earlier, just seven months after her passing. His funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church on Friday, March 17 at 10.30am. Their daughter Jane decided the event should be held as so much work had gone into the organisation of it.
