Sunday, June 5 will see Llanfoist gardeners are opening their gardens to visitors for the 14th consecutive year.

The popular Open Gardens Day will raise funds for the National Garden Scheme’s (NGS) sponsored nursing and caring national charities - including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Parkinson’s UK - and also for the planned garden development at the village hall.

The event generates a great local community spirit by bringing together the various skills and expertise of more than 100 local people.

The varied gardens on display are, of course, the main attraction of the day, pulling in visitors from far and wide.

This year there are again some 15 gardens to visit and St Faith’s church in the village is supporting the event with floral displays.

Each year the organisers try to have one or two different gardens open to give the many regular visitors something new to see.

“During the past 14 years we have seen a huge ongoing programme of new house building around the village that has pretty much doubled the size of Llanfoist,” said Brian Barnes.

“We are pleased to see that we now have a number of these new gardens that have matured and have joined the Open Gardens day.

“As always the plant and book stall will be operating in the centre of the old village and the ever popular canal boat trips are again available from Llanfoist Boat House.”

All of the gardens can be visited between 10.30am and 5.30pm on Sunday (June 5) with a £5 Rover Ticket (children go free) which includes mini bus transport around the outlying gardens.

The canal boat trips are at a small additional cost between some gardens.

Llanfoist Village Hall will be the centre for morning tea and coffee, hot lunches, and afternoon tea and cakes etc. In addition there will be refreshments available in some gardens.
