Ramblers Cymru have teamed up with Healthy Blaenavon to encourage more families to get outside and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of the stunning landscape on their doorstep.

The partnership is part of recent efforts to build links with Community Groups to bring walking activities to families in the Valleys Regional Park area.

Last week Alan Jones, Mayor of Bleanavon Town Council and Healthy Blaenavon Officer Rebecca Smith joined Ramblers Cymru to promote family walking using the Ramblers Cymru Scramblers activity packs featuring two dragons, Ramble and Scramble, as part of a wider strategy run by Healthy Bleanavon.

The Healthy Blaenavon Officer, Rebecca Smith said: “We are pleased to welcome Ramblers Cymru and love Ramble and Scramble as they epitomise the wider Healthy Blaenavon project by encouraging families to get active and to enjoy the outdoors.

’’In consultation, families, have said that there is very little to do here and that it is too expensive to leave town by public transport.

’’We want to see them going on walks within our local area, and we hope they appreciate the beauty of landscape surrounding the town.

“We will also be championing Ramble and Scramble’s 12-week challenge through our Street Games project which focuses on removing barriers to being active.”

Ramblers Cymru Family Trails Officer Kate Blair said: “It is our passion to bring walking to the heart of the community. It is a joy to bring Ramble and Scramble to the Blaenavon Family Activity Club who have not been able to meet up during the COVID pandemic.

“We hope that families share their adventure in the Bleanavon town forums and encourage more people to get involved.”
