BLAENAVON Blues Ladies played their final pre-season friendly before their league campaign kicks off this Sunday, by travelling to Cascade and coming away with a hard earned victory against plucky opposition.

The Blues started the more lively and put the home side under pressure for long periods, but failed to turn the pressure into goals as the outstanding Cascade keeper denied the Blues attack time and time again.

The Blues finally make a break through in the 22nd minute when striker Lyndsey Davies pounced for a scrappy goal.

Ten minutes later Davies rounded the home keeper to bag hers and the Blues' second of the afternoon.

The second-half started at a faster pace and the Blues extended their 2-0 lead when outstanding midfielder Caitlin Tew threaded a perfect ball through for striker De Thomas to bang in her first.

The game then went from end to end and it was the home side who benefited off an unlucky deflection from the Blues defender to make the score 3-1.

Cascade must have thought that they were back in the game, but for winger Erin Reed to put in a mazy run which ended in a pin point cross for striker Thomas to coolly head home her second of the afternoon.

This was an excellent work out for both sides and the game was played in great spirit.

A mention must go to the Blues new signing Kirsty Williams who had a very good game at the centre of defence, along with winger Erin Reed who showed some good skill out on the right wing.

Next week the Blues entertain Cambrian/Ferndale in their first Division One game of the season.

The Blues last played Cambrian/Ferndale away in the League Cup last season and were unlucky to lose 4-3 after leading by three goals to one well into the second half of the game.
