THROUGHOUT the summer young people have been taking part in a variety of activities arranged for them by the Bryn y Cwm Community Association (BCCA).

A programme of seven activities, including bread making, drama, African drumming and jump-style dancing was available at six youth clubs in the area.

The sessions were intended to give young people who are not central to Abergavenny town a taster of different activities to do within their local youth clubs.

The programme has been funded with grants from GAVO's Active Communities grant scheme and the New Grove Trust with additional support from the Bryn y Cwm Forum, Communities First and adventa's Supporting Community Enterprise.

Chairman of BCCA, Councillor James George, said, "Its been great to see so many young people benefit from this project. Never before has there been so much for the youngsters to do over the summer holiday period and the feedback has been really good. I would like to thank the activity providers for their support with the project and a big thank you to Gemma and Laura for all the hard work they put in to organise the activities and most of all a big thank you for the youngsters who took part."

Gemma Cole who co-ordinated delivery of the programme along with Laura Hunt added, "I felt that even though there were a few hitches along the way the activities went well. Another positive taking place due to organising the activities is that Laura has been able to, with the help of volunteers, open a youth club within the Llanfoist area, which is a great achievement. Finally, I'd like to thank all youth centres leaders, activity providers and all young people for having patience while the activities were being arranged."

Laura Hunt added, "The activities have been a success in many of the clubs, some of the tutors have agreed to go back for additional sessions after the project has ended. I would like to thank Gemma for being such a great co-worker, along with the tutors, club leaders and young people who have taken part in this project. We hope you all got to experience something different which you can enjoy again. I would also like to thank Richard Lewis, as if it weren't for him, none of these activities would have taken place"
