SMALL change donated by members of the UK’s second largest building society is being put up for grabs in a £100,000 giveaway – and townsfolk in Abergavenny are among those being asked to help decide how the money should be spent.
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation launched its Small Change Big Difference Week on Monday with the society hoping residents will pay them a visit to nominate charities and good causes in the community to receive a share of the huge donation.
All nominations received at Yorkshire’s agency - at F R Ball Insurance Ltd by this Saturday - will then be considered by the Charitable Foundation’s Trustees to receive a £100 share of the £100,000 giveaway.
Jane Taylor-Davies, the society’s national agency manager, said, “We’re all really excited to be taking part in this year’s Small Change Big Difference Week - and our local agency in Abergavenny can’t wait to hand over donations to successful charities and good causes in the community.
“This campaign is a perfect opportunity to help some of the smaller causes that can often be overlooked for donations, and to whom £100 can go a long way.
“I really hope local people will take a minute to pop in to our local agency, nominate their chosen charity and support a cause close to their heart.”
The £100,000 donation has been made possible through the participation of Society members in the Small Change Big Difference® scheme.
More than 750,000 Yorkshire Building Society accounts contribute to the scheme, in which the pence in interest from their accounts is donated to the Charitable Foundation, providing the cash to assist smaller charities and good causes around the UK.
In 2014, the Charitable Foundation made 2,189 donations to good causes and charities in the UK totalling £464,000.
